Diabetes Youth Auckland is managed by a volunteer committee of parents with children/teens who have diabetes.

We employ a Youth Manager part-time to manage events, camps and communications so volunteers are an important part of our organisation. Many of our volunteers have a child with type 1 diabetes, however we are also welcome help from your family, friends and colleagues. We also always need volunteer medical staff for camps and events along with young adults with diabetes who can act as role models, mentors and group leaders.

There are many ways to get involved from fundraising, to helping at events, to being on the Diabetes Youth Auckland committee. If you are interested in volunteering please contact our Youth Manager on 0508 DIABETES or email

You can contribute and make a difference by:

    • Helping at events and information evenings e.g. registration, set up, hosting, organising food and drink, selling T shirts, clean up
    • Contributing articles or stories to our magazine Youth Buzz and website
    • Assisting at camps e.g. being camp mum or dad, providing medical support
    • “Shaking the bucket” during Diabetes Awareness month and for one-off appeals
    • Organising small fundraising events at your workplace or local school e.g. mufti day, bake sale, sponsored challenge
    • Participating in DYA fundraising activities
    • Approaching organisations for corporate sponsorship for our events and initiatives
    • Asking businesses for auction items and raffle prizes to raise much needed funds
    • Becoming a parent support area coordinator
    • Raising awareness of diabetes e.g. contacting local media with personal stories
    • Joining the DYA committee or a specific sub committee
    • Proposing ideas for initiatives that will benefit youth and their families
