Family Camp 2019 Making Connections!
When: 3rd – 5th May 2019 (from 6pm Friday until after lunch on Sunday)
Where: YMCA Shakespear Lodge, Whangaparoa, set in the beautiful Shakespear Regional Park and Wildlife Sanctuary.
Who: The whole family – all ages and wider family welcome!
Activities: This highly popular weekend includes activities such as kayaking, boating, air rifle shooting, archery, climbing, mountain biking and boarding, bush craft and orienteering. All activities are led by experienced YMCA guides assisted by DYA volunteers.
Costs: DYA fundraising efforts and grants subsidise the costs of this camp, the price includes two nights’ accommodation, all food and activities.
Adults (15 years +) $95
Children (under 15 years) $75
Children (under 5 years) $30
All children with Type 1 Diabetes must have at least one accompanying adult. YMCA Shakespear instructors will run the main activities for kids 6 years plus. (We might get a parents group going too – mountain biking!) Diabetes Youth Auckland volunteers will run a low key program of activities for younger kids and their families. (We’ve had lots of interest from families with younger children too!) So there should be something for everyone!

Accommodation: Small dormitories with bunk beds sleep 5 to 11 people, so families should expect to share rooms. There are separate male and female toilets and showers.
Food: Shakespear Lodge provides healthy, nutritious and good wholesome meals during our stay. They are able to cater for dietary requirements, please make sure to fill out the separate form click here or under registration above. You will need to make your own arrangements for dinner on Friday night, you are welcome to bring a picnic dinner to eat at Shakespear Lodge.
Meals provided are:
Saturday: Breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner, supper
Sunday: Breakfast, morning tea, lunch.
All day tea and coffee also provided.
Duties: To help the camp run smoothly, everyone is expected to help as needed or when asked with chores such as food preparation, serving food, washing and drying dishes, sweeping floors, cleaning bathrooms and kitchens and emptying rubbish bins.
All parents are responsible for their own children at all times, including diabetes management.
There is no alcohol or non-prescription drugs allowed at Shakespear Lodge.
