Volunteering in November

Collage of DAW activities

Auckland Marathon – 1st of November:

We need volunteers to help support Team Diabetes, a group of individuals who are fundraising and walking/running on behalf of us at the Auckland Marathon on the 1st of November! Completing a quarter, half or full marathon is a great physical and mental challenge and we are looking forward to having a fantastic day celebrating our walkers and runners achievement.

Are you keen to help us run the post-race event on the day to celebrate their hard work and success? It will be an early start but a really fun day to be involved in, the more the merrier!

Responsibilities:

  • Assist us on the day at our tent site with a range of tasks, from helping with set up/pack down to being part of our cheer squad supporting Team Diabetes as they cross the finish line.
  • Be comfortable standing/moving around for 4.5 hours from 6am onwards – two shifts available, 6am – 10.30am and 9.30am – 2pm.
  • Flexible and happy to work closely with a big group of people
  • SMILE, be friendly and enthusiastic in celebrating our amazing Marathon walkers and runners success!

Diabetes Action Month – November

Collage of DAW activities

Diabetes Action Month is coming up soon!

We are excited to announce the inaugural Diabetes Action Month will be taking place in November 2015. November also plays host to World Diabetes Day, on the 14th and more information about the day can be found here. The theme for both World Diabetes Day (WDD) and Diabetes Action Month is “Act today, to change tomorrow”. Further information regarding Diabetes Action Month will be made in due course. Keep an eye on our Twitter and Facebook pages for more details.

With November coming up in just a few months now, we have started our recruitment for volunteers. See below for the ways you can help.

  • Selling raffle tickets on our behalf –We would so appreciate your help with selling raffle tickets. Individual tickets will be available to purchase on our online shop, but if you’re interested in selling some books, please email us.  There is a window this year to sell these for 8 weeks with close off 20 November.
  • Contribute during our Countdown Collections – We’ll be holding collections at Countdown stores across the city, so if you’re out and about doing your shopping, any donation you make will be greatly appreciated!
  • Hosting an event on our behalf – whether it’s a Zumba night or a fishing competition that raises money for the work that we do, we are always open to new ideas!

The more help we can get to raise awareness of diabetes this November, the better!  If you are interested in being involved in any of the above ways, just let us know by emailing our Volunteer Coordinator on volunteer@diabetesauckland.org.nz
