    Diabetes NZ Auckland Branch

Encouraging Aucklanders to Live Life Well

Diabetes NZ Auckland Branch works across Auckland, supporting those living with diabetes. There are nearly 100,000 people in the region living with the condition, with everyone at risk of developing diabetes.

Diabetes NZ Auckland Branch provides a range of services to engage with local communities throughout Auckland, raising awareness of diabetes and helping people to make the necessary lifestyle changes in order to reduce their risk factors.

Our Mobile Diabetes Awareness Service van (below) allows us to engage directly with communities across the city, providing information and advice to those living with diabetes and raising awareness to the general public.

Diabetes NZ Auckland Branch also deliver programmes helping families to make healthier lifestyle choices. HOPE (Healthy Options = Positive Eating) provides information on small changes that can be made at home to help families live and eat healthier.

Any donations are greatly appreciated and go towards services such as HOPE and our Mobile Awareness Service. In turn, this helps us to further engage with the people of Auckland and support those living with diabetes.

    Diabetes Youth Auckland

Supporting young people living with diabetes

Diabetes Youth Auckland (DYA) provides vital support and services aimed at families and the 900+ young people living with diabetes aged up to 25 years, most of whom have type 1 diabetes. DYA is operated by Diabetes NZ Auckland Branch and supported by the work of a volunteer committee.

DYA hold several events throughout the calendar year, providing an opportunity for children to meet with other kids their age also living with diabetes. This is an important aspect of any young person dealing with a diagnosis, learning that they are not alone and can still live their life to the full! Summer and Snow Camps, Sleepover at Kelly Tarlton’s and Butterfly Creek attracted children of all ages. DYA also hold fundraising events, helping to raise awareness as crucial funds.

DYA has only one permanent member of staff, Youth Manager, Shona Willis and a volunteer committee, so any donations are greatly appreciated and go a long way to helping those young people living with diabetes in Auckland. For both the children and their families, dealing with diabetes can be a difficult and stressful period and having DYA to help support them can make the world of difference.
